Why telehealth for glaucoma?
With telehealth, you can consult with a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist from the comfort of your home. It’s especially beneficial for patients with mobility issues, those living in remote areas, or anyone looking to save time and avoid the hassle of travel. Plus, family members can easily join the visit, keeping everyone informed and involved in your care plan. Our goal is to ensure every patient diagnosed with glaucoma can be monitored by a fellowship-trained specialist to ensure the best and most convenient care possible.

FAQ
-
Do I need to see anyone else for my glaucoma if you are monitoring it?
Yes. You do need to visit a local eye doctor on a regular basis to measure the eye pressure and perform optic nerve testing. We can assist you in finding a nearby eye care provider should you need one. Our specialists will adjust the treatments after reviewing these results and communicate any treatment changes to your local eye doctor. Most patients will see their local eye doctor 2-4 times a year and have an annual virtual visit with us.
-
What are the different eye doctors that manage glaucoma?
The highest trained doctor for glaucoma is an ophthalmologist (M.D.) who has completed a 1 year fellowship in glaucoma. Because there are a limited number of these sub-specialists, most patients with glaucoma are usually monitored by general ophthalmologists (M.D.) or optometrists (O.D.). With the help of technology, our goal is for every patient with glaucoma to have easy access to a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist.
-
What if I need laser or surgical treatment for the glaucoma?
While most glaucoma can be managed medically, sometimes laser or surgery is required. In these instances, we can arrange an in-person visit at our Dallas area office, or we can coordinate in finding the closest fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist to you.

Does insurance cover these virtual visits?
We accept Medicare, most Medicare Advantage plans, and most commercial insurance plans. Many insurance plans, including Medicare, now cover telehealth visits. We recommend checking with your insurance provider for specific details regarding your coverage.
